#45: The Science of Yoga with Eddie Stern
16th Feb 2020
Eddie is a yoga teacher, author, and lecturer from New York City. He is known for his multi-disciplinary approach to furthering education and access to yoga, as well as his teaching expertise in Ashtanga Yoga.
His bestselling first solo book, One Simple Thing: A New Look at the Science of Yoga, examines in clear and simple language the underlying neurophysiological mechanisms that make yoga an effective practice.
We had a really great conversation today and some of the topics that I discussed with Eddie were:
- How a punk rocker in the 70s became a Yoga teacher to the celebrities in New York
- His time spent travelling in India and learning from the great masters of Yoga while on his travels
- Why consciousness is an important concept to fathom and how the process of learning ‘who we are’ is important, rather the achievement
- The studies that Eddie has been involved in, that demonstrate Yoga as an important tool for cardiovascular health
- The vagus nerve as a root to mindfulness and changing your autonomic nervous system function
Do have a look at at the Summary and Guest Info sections below where I’ve added a ton of more information that Eddie has been involved in and also some really interesting articles on The Vagus Nerve which I know you will find super interesting!
