About this recipe
Great as a make-ahead breakfast or to have on the go. Packed with slow release carbohydrates and fibre for a satisfying start. You can also add in additional fruit such as berries, if the orange isn’t available, or your favourite nuts and seeds.
Baking the oats is slightly unusual, but I sometimes make this ahead, pop it in the oven whilst I get ready in the mornings and it’s done in no time!

- 100g Rolled oats (gluten free option)
- 1 tsp Vanilla paste / extract
- A pinch salt
- 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp Nut butter - 35-40g
- 2 tsp Honey or maple syrup - 20g (optional)
- 200ml Oat milk / milk
- 15g Hemp seeds- plus extra for finishing
- 3 Blood oranges - around 300g (reserve one to add after cooking)
- Coconut oil for greasing
- 15g pistachios (optional)
Preheat the oven to 180C. Line a small baking dish with a little coconut oil.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, nut butter, honey (if using), milk and the hemp seeds. Mix well before pouring into the base of the baking dish.
Remove the skin from the oranges using a sharp knife and cut into 1cm slices. Arrange ⅔ of the orange on top of the oats. Finish with a sprinkle more hemp seeds before putting in the oven and baking for 10-15 mins until just set.
Remove from the oven and leave to cool slightly. Top with roughly chopped pistachios and the remaining orange slices. Great served with a dollop of natural yoghurt!
