Apple and Ginger Granola with Orange and Cinnamon

Granolas are always a popular breakfast option – and having your own home made batch ready to go in the cupboard is even better. Pre-bought granola can sometimes be a little high in added sugars, so by making your own you can focus on packing in the good stuff!

This recipe includes some great sources of nuts and seeds that will definitely start your day off well. Oats are a great source of insoluble fibre that can help fuel you through your morning – and the apple, cinnamon, ginger and orange add both flavour and sweetness – meaning you don’t need to add in any other sugars.

I would recommend adding some natural yoghurt and fresh chunks of apple, as a crunchy porridge topping, or simply serve the granola with some milk of your choice.

It also travels well in a Tupperware – so a great option to take to work or as breakfast on the go!

Shop this recipe:

  • 200g Apple, peeled into thin strips
  • 100g Jumbo rolled oats
  • 100g Flax seeds (linseed or chia also work well)
  • Juice and zest of one orange
  • 20g Grated ginger
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 50g Pistachios
  • 50g Walnuts
  • 2 tbsp oil (sunflower oil, olive oil, coconut oil)

Preheat the oven to 180C.

Add all your ingredients into a large mixing bowl and give everything a good mix, making sure that everything is coated in the oil.

Spread the mixture out onto a baking tray.

Bake in the pre-heated oven for 10 minutes before giving everything a good stir and returning to the oven for a further 5-10 minutes. Bake the mixture until the moisture has been absorbed and the mixture is lightly golden brown.

Remove from the oven and leave to cool completely.
